PSP Error? (noob repainter help, please)

Alright, so I fire up PSP7, I'm all set to go to work to repaint for the first time, and this is what happens when I try and open up the texture to paint



Any idea why it does this? I've tried it for various planes and textures and has the same result. Also what other types of free programs are out there for repainting? It may just be PSP..

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Because its an extended bitmap which it cant read ..you need a program called DXTbmp to convert it to a normal bitmap then your graphics editor can open it
