DXTbmp v.4.00.83

Postby wji » Fri Nov 11, 2005 12:07 pm

Thanks to Martin Wright for DXTbmp.exe
I just installed DXTbmp v.4.00.83
I hate getting used to new software (or upgrades)
the old version worked fine and fit like an old pair of slippers.

The latest DXTbmp v.4.00.83 only offers an option to LOAD EXTENDED and added a completely BLACK ALPHA to a Photoshop.PSD file while converting to DXT3.

No big deal, I just a changed the alpha channel.

Is everyone completely happy with the new DXTbmp v.4.00.83?

Thnx for any comments.

I'm no repainter but I mess aound with this stuff occasionally. I wasn't aware of this new version & I'm happy with DXTBmp 4.00.79

MW knows what he's doing & each update to DXTBmp has included some improvements on the previous version. I assume this latest version has everything required. Martin Wright has been one of the stars of freeware for a very long time & one of the friendliest & most helpful people I've met in this community. If you have questions about any of his files I suggest you mail & ask him.

PS. I don't know why people refer to it as DXTbmp.exe. The name of the program is DXTBmp & the .exe is the executable file extension.

PPS. Where did you get this latest version? From what I can see 4.00.79 is still current. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm

Latest version - as downloaded off the link you give, does install as 4.00.83.  I guess Martin hasn't come around to updating the page's description.

Thanks for the replies.

"I don't know why people refer to it as DXTbmp.exe."

The download is an executable (DXTbmpx.exe) -- not a zip. As already noted, once it's initiated, DXTbmpx.exe installs the latest version of DXTbmp, which is *.83.

I was receiving the Load Extended screen because I was saving the Photoshop.bmp as 32bit.

Smiple error on my part? You bet.

Ah, that explains it. I might even try this new version myself.

I mentioned DXTBmp.exe as it's also the executable file for the DXTBmp program. Double-click on it to run DXTBmp. (Note the latest download is named dxtbmpx.exe). If you do a search for DXTBmp.exe instead of plain DXTBmp you very often won't find what you're looking for.
