dxt converting

hey, i try to repaint some of my planes, and when i convert 1 or 2 files in the texture folder, it says "not a valid 16 bit texture file" and such and it loads it anyway. I can barely see the picture over yellowish-brownish lines.  i.e., On the cessna 172, i load the c172_c, and its fine. Same with the c172_d, but on c172_T, its all screwed up.  Is it just my computer, or does this happen to everyone? If it does happen, how do u fix it?
