Mysterious Textures

I've been trying to repaint the FS98 Learjet, but the textures always remain the same.  So I tried something.  I deleted all the textures from the learjet's texture folders to see if they even do anything.  I opened FS98 again, and,  :o  The textures are still there!  Anyone know what causes this?  (Anyone here still repaint for FS98? lol )
