Introducing: DOMINICAX (Beta 0.1)

Postby MOUSY » Tue Aug 10, 2010 4:58 pm

Hi guys, Its been awhile since I've been around the V, but I'm back again with something new for the flight sim community:

Introducing DOMINICAX (Beta 0.1) for FSX
Not yet available for download
Image

A complete Photoreal scenery representation of my home country of The Commonwealth of Dominica. Over 750 sq. km. of phototextures, hand placed autogen and scenery objects.

It is about 95% complete, and right now I am in the process of looking for about 10 beta testers.

If you're interested in beta testing please send me a PM or just leave a reply below. I will send the URLs to the package by PM to the first 10.

This scenery relies heavily on autogen for proper depiction of the island so I recommend being able to run with sliders on at least Dense, and preferably on Very Dense or higher.

Click here for a preview of DominicaX with a few higher resolution images.

Below I will list known issues so far as well as links to images with errors and we can all discuss how these may be dealt with and what is acceptable for the scenery package.

PLEASE! The purpose of these threads and beta testing is for feedback before the first release. So ANY criticism is welcome!

Very nice looking scenery! But is the triple post necessary?

Thanks... lol.. wanted to get as much feedback as possible. The quicker the better. Hopefully with all the help I'll finish this project before I leave for university again and become swamped. Send me your mail by PM. Thanks for your interest!

Hi Mousy

I just took a flight around Dominica in FSX to compare your screen-shots. There is a lot more to see in yours. So far I'm impressed. If you like I'd be happy to check it out on my Sim and send you some screen shots to see what it looks like on mine. I'll pm you my email address.

Thanks Bob...

Guys I just realised that the total zipped file size is 129MB which is a bit impractical for me to email. I am in the process of uploading the split zip files to MediaFire.com. I will provide you all with the file URLs by PM when it is done uploading.

You could also use Pando to send it. Thats what I use to send large files and it's freeware. Here's the link.

O yea... forgot about Pando... been awhile since I used it... But I'm already 25% uploaded on mediafire, so I guess I'll just finish it.

Known Errors that I have deemed acceptable for this version.
- Coast lines do not match up perfectly in areas where High resolution photoscenery must blend into lower resolution scenery. Example: http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/D ... Cliffs.jpg

Bob, Brandon, the URLs were sent by PM.

Ok... just to bring you all up to date on the major errors I'm getting so far.

Large rectangles or lines of autogen appearing where they are not supposed to:
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?k4d104q6bxd2311
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?da7x8w6o517tyk5
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?ecsdc4hhfoe4c6n
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?ph49znroizpta9r

Also, popping autogen. Might be a hardware based error, but it may also be caused by the complex polygons responsible for telling the sim where to draw autogen.
Missing autogen:
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?k4d104q6bxd2311
Section Pops in:
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?uber48uwm6g9y3v
Now all appears:
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?4nd6p86cidm7n8n

This may happen anywhere on the island.
I did notice that it does not happen in places like The Amazon, where there are large expanses of the same autogen rainforest.

Weird Lines\Shadows near Fort in north of Island. Also possibly hardware based errors:
http://www.mediafire.com/?yr0q0e3pa5zuoj0

Let me know if these errors are reproduced in your sim.

I has a question, how long will you need testers for?
Because I have school starting in 2-3 weeks and I won't be able to test then.  :(
Right now I don't have all that much time as I'm spending a lot of time beta testing a WWII tank game. Although I'm stuck in my house all day because of this stinking heat. :P :P
But this looks like something I would love to test.

2 or 3 weeks is ok. I'm heading back to university then too, so I'd like to get this done before then... Though I doubt I will.

I'm PMing the links to you now.
