CFS3 to FSX

I'm wondering if it is possible to convert a CFS3 aircraft to a FSX compatible one, if so, then how hard is it.

Not possible. And if it was it would take so much work that you would do an exact replica of that plane from scratch much faster than you could adapt it from CFS3 to FSX...

What if I could use a very similar aircraft's dynamics, sounds, and effects, then just copy the CFS3 aircraft's .mdl on top of it
(i'm trying to convert the CFS3 Ebon Hawk)

CFS3 used a different modeling system to other FS's. The CFS2 ones were frequently converted to FS9 so some might be possible....

I was able to convert the CFS3 .m3d's to .mdl's by just changing the name, so that's not a problem

.....
...Dude... If things worked that way we wouldn't need SDKs and could convert anything into anything... Changing the name only does that, change the name, it doesn't change the internal contents of the file... The file is still coded as a M3D file, inside. It's not possible. The only thing FSX and CFS3 share are the aircraft.cfg and .air files, and even those differ from one to another ...

Well the file type said it was a .mdl, I'm just wondering if you even tried this

Well, you can go around on your PC changing .jpeg files to .bmp files through editing the name or .doc files to .ppt They may appear as the files you change them to, but you won't be able to open them with any program...

Manuelle Villa might disagree with you on this ;)

His latest offering, the AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE, is an adaptation from a CFS3 model for FS9. Of course he had the source model, and worked quite hard to convert them to FS9-style, but he did it.

The cool thing is that it displays quite well in FSX (with the usual transparency fixes), and it even displays perfectly in DirectX10 mode !!

I don't think that's what SkyHawk00 meant. CFS3 aircraft are completely different from those in any other version of CFS/FS. I always understood that it's not possible to convert them in the conventional sense.

Ah well, I thought "convertion" was concerning the 3D stuff, not just the file structure.
A CFS3 model cannot be installed in FSX or FS9, no matter how you rename the files and folders, that's a fact.
But a CFS3 model source file can be converted, not easilly at all, but a 3D modeler can do it.
