Display sucks

Postby Dickert » Mon Mar 15, 2010 11:48 pm

Here is another ongoing problem I have never been able to find an answer for.  How do you increase the display quality of textures mapped to the model?  The textures look good in Paint Shop Pro, they also look fine on the aircraft in Flight Sim, but in Gmax, everything turns into large blocks and it is very difficult to see how things line up.  I

Harold, the viewport renderer in GMax is pretty bad, as you've noticed.

What are your Viewport texture resolution settings though?

Preference / Viewports / Configure Driver

Background texture size: 1024
Download texture size: 512

Hi Bill

Thanks

I had those set to one less than you listed here.

"That other program" would be FSDS, and the display options are (from what I understand) a bit better than Gmax.

As well as the settings Bill mentioned, there are also two other that you should have set for the best results.

In Customise>Preferences>Viewports>Configure Driver, set the Match Bitmap Size as Closely as Possible option.

In the viewport settings (right-click Top, Front etc...), make sure "Texture Correction" is set.

Here is how my GMax looks with a texture applied to an object:-

This is using the HEIDI (Software Z-Buffer) driver by the way, it's the least troublesome of all the drivers and most computers these days are fine with it speed wise.
