Not sure if this is the right area

for my question, but hopefully one of the developers can steer me in the right direction.
I downloaded a plane off the site, and it comes in 12 liveries. Now, in looking at them, while they all look great, there is only one I can actually see myself using. I would rather not even have the other 11 taking up space on my HD or showing up in my "Choose Aircraft" screen, but am not quite sure how to make them go away.
I unzipped the master file for the craft file and can see each model folder, texture folder, and can see/open/edit the aircraft.config file, so that's no problem.
What I need help with is

What aircraft?
Usually, each DL comes with only one model folder. Otherwise, just delete the textures you do not want, then edit out the texturea in the aircraft.cfg. unless the texture left is already "[fltsim.0]", you probably have to make it "[fltsim.0]". You should not have to change the texture number because the [fltsim0] will already have the texture proper texture number already.
If there are different model numbers, the same woud apply, and you should be able to delet the unwanted model folder too. (I'd pack all your deletions in a separate temparary folder first, just in case.)

I should've said texture folders, not model. Yes, there is only one model folder, but 12 different repaints in the package. I only want one of the 12 to show up in the sim, not all 12.

Then all you should have to do is delete the unwanted textures, delete the unwanted [fltsim##] from the aircraft.cfg, and change the remaining [fltsim##] to [fltsim.0], unless it is already [fltsim.0].

Caution
If it's FS.X you are on it may not be that straightforward.

Yes, I'm running FSX alone. No accel, No service packs

Then it shouldn't be a problem. The only thing to make sure of (and a good reason to make a backup of the whole package) is that the first [fltsim.0] may not corespond to the first un-numbered or titled texture file, so double check the "texture=XXXX" in the [fltsim.X] entry to makes sure you keep the right texture for the paint-job you want to keep.

OK,..that's what threw me. I tried this a week or so ago w/ the stock "ultralights" that come w FXS. (The only one I really wanted was the black one.) I started deleting textures and changed the config file, but kept getting an initialization error whenever I booted up FSX as it was looking for the red one for the defult Friday Harbor scenario it defaults to.
Unded up having to do a total reinstall, but it taught me about working on files when I'm tired and in too much of a hurry!

And a good reason to make a backup copys of the default aircraft, and archive the download.zip for add-ons!

Not sure it's a good idea to remove any default aircraft files. Unless you've replaced all the default AI traffic they will be used for that even if you never fly them yourself.

I don't see the advantage of removing those textures either unless you're desperately short of HDD space. There is an option in FSX to show only one variation of each aircraft on the selection menu if that's what you wish to do.

The reason I mention FS.X is there is usually a texture folder with all the needed textures and the rest only contain those that change, the remaider are picked up from the 'master' folder
So if you delete that one all the common textures.....interiors perhaps wheels and things like that could be lost.
The best option is that which Hagar mentions........disable those you don't want
