1st Conversion, Need A Litttle Help

Postby ShaneG_old » Sat Aug 23, 2008 7:19 am

I'm trying to make the freeware Alphasim Su-47 Berkut FSX compatible. I just need to know a couple of things to solve a couple of problems I haven't encountered before.

1. Black bar cutting off bottom portion of screen in all views, What value do I change, I'm assuming it's a camera problem.

2. What order is FSX smoke X, Y, Z, in? I need to realign the smoke from the afterburners (they work beautifully!! ;))

Any & all help is GREATLY appreciated! I couldn't find one already converted, and someone suggested I do it myself, so when I get it done, I am planning on uploading it to SimV, so I need to get it right! ;)
Thanx! 8-)

Go to "panel" and open the "panel.cfg", find "render_3d_window=1"

May I suggest that when uploading the conversion that you try something new:

DO NOT (re) upload the Alphasim model - point the user to where they can donwload the original FS-9 model.

YOUR upload will consist of *only* the files that you found necessary to change.

Remember, no matter HOW you write your "readme"  there will be people that will accuse you of trying to take credit for the complete model, yadda, yadda, yadda, ad nauseam......

Good luck,,,!

I think he's just converting for personal use, not for up-loading.
;)

No, I had planned on uploading it, but I do see your point Felix. ;) It probably would be better to just upload the update instead, give people the excuse to play around with some files! ;)
Thanx for the panel help!! ;D

Any help on the smoke question? :-? 8-)

On the smoke, you need to play "swap-around" with the X, Y, Z columns.

Have you also dealt with the guages?  Several are FS98 or earlier, and not supported.  this is a major annoyance for people whoi DL a FS9=>FSX conversion.

Also, please note that there is a wide opinion of converting for up-load ass-on's from an earlier sim to newer sims.  The opinions range from "It's freeware, so it's fair game" to "If you do not get the blessing of the original designer of the add-on, you are a pirate!"

IMPO, error on the side of caution, and contact the original designer, and no-body can complain, and everyone's happy.

This is an exact quote of the readme that came with it:

So that's what gave me the idea to reupload it, I assumed (yes I know what that means ;)) that it would be cool as long as all original documents were included. I will contact them anyway just to be safe.

On the smoke, I know that the FSX x,y,z was swapped I just need to know what the order was as opposed to FS9.

Oddly all the gauges seem to work in the VC, it still says that all these gauges are fs98 and won't work but they do. I was going to attempt some gauge swapping with some default gauges to see if anything worked. God it would be alot simpler if I could just slap on the F-18 panel and vc, wouldn't be correct but it would be sweet to fly in! ;)

Since the "readme' seems to give the Okey-Dokey,there shouldn't be any problems from that end, but the mere fact that the FS98 gauges pop-up on start-up is enough to honk some people off.  One or two are a minor annoyance, but I've seeen some that it seems like you are "closing" for an eternity (though, most of those are conversions I do for myself, with no intention of up-loading.)

The thing is, a lot of people that do get honked off at that tend to jump the shark, and sound off to the original authors, in this case, Alpha.

The Berkut only has, what, 2 that give that warning?  Swapping a gauge or simply commenting them out in the .cfg may be the solution, if they don't matter too much.

as soon as I did the panel mod, all the gauges went black, so It looks like I gots to replace them! :(  Time to do some reading! ;)

also, I fixed the problem of afterburners coming on with the lights, but how do I make them come on with the throttle?

This should be nice, I've added some camera views and upgraded the aircraft.cfg using the f/a-18 as a template on how it should be laid out, and changed some script differences. So far the only thing I can see left to do is the afterburner deal and get the gauges going. I've got all the warning messages stopped! by // the old gauges for now.

SU-47 UPDATE!!!

Got all the gauges working, the thing flys beautifuly. All the views are nice, the lights are all working and lined up. the only thing left is the afterburner issue. I still can't figure out how to get them to come on using the throttle. I can hear them, just can't see them. What am I missing here? Is it in the aircraft.cfg or the panel.cfg?
