Disappearing Gear Bays

I recall a while back reading about a tag (name) that, if added to the gearbays on an aircraft, would allow it to disappear (along with all children of said part) when the gear were fully up.  I want to say I learned this from Milton, but I'm not sure.

Anyone remember that part name?

Mmm I don't understand very well , but if I think I do, all my makemdl planes the gears dissapear once the finish the complete the retract

this is an example of the Citation X center gear (Ignore the spanish stuff I used this shot to teach a Spanish Guy)

Image

It didn't close all once they're were up because the space were too strech it if I would it animate it completly I would have to see the top to the tire in front of the nose , but this goes to all gear in makemdl9 I think is not part is just the way they did ,once they up ,they dissapear

is not the same case with FSX-SDK

What I was referring to was that when the gear retract, all the parts that are linked to "C_Gear_Wheelwell" or whatever it is called, all the actual parts disappear from the simulation, meaning they are no longer rendered.

I need this, since the aircraft I'm working on right now has a very unique gear setup, and I don't know how to resolve the situation.

EDIT:

Nevermind, I have found the part name.  I looked through my tutorial files and found that it should be "C_Wheelwell", not "C_Gear_Wheelwell."

It works precisely the same in FSX, except it isn't the partname "c_wheelwell" but rather the visibility tag applied that is named "c_wheelwell" using the Attachpoint Tool.

I'm sorry, but I really have no idea what you're talking about.  I don't have FSX, or computer to run it (oh, how I wish I did!), so I'm not sure what this attachpoint tool is.  But I'm sure I'll get into all that once I start modeling for that sim . . .

That's okay. I was really answering Alex's question regarding his not knowing how c_wheelwell is implemented in FSX.

i think the main gear parts don't really disappear when fully retracted... or planes like the 737 wouldn't work (the tyres on the 737 remain exposed when the gear is retracted)

and i don't recall having to do anything the keep them from disappearing when we did the 737 experience... the wheelwell might, though... but i don't know for sure since i never used that tag

just my 2 cents...

If you link all the gear parts (IE- c_gear_center, etc) to the wheelwell part, they are not rendered when the gear is retracted.  That way, you save on FPS when the gear isn't needed, and you can make the gear very detailed without compromising framerates.

That's simple enough to accomplish. You simply clone the visible wheel/tire and have it displayed whenever the full gear set is retracted and therefore "invisible..." ;)
