Hello !

I'm using 3DSMax8 now but I've got problems with it. Can I use Max9 for aircraft modelling to FS9/FSX?

Thanks

Wow!  A $3500.00 program...  It must be nice to be able to afford that just for our little flight sim!  ;)

3d MAX 8 & 9 are usesless to operate FSX-SDK ,you need Max 7

Alrot - You're not quite right.

THe FS-X SDK Tools can be used with MAx 7 OR 8, but not 9.  What can be done with Max9 is export the model to 3DS and import it to gmax to finish the detailing/texturing to the FS-X.

WHile MAx 7/8/9 have a lot more tools and features than gmax, let's remember that even gmax has a lot more features than FS can handle.

Thanks the answers !

Another question : is there difference between FS9's MDL and FSX's mdl? I exported and converted from 3DS to X, then to MDL, but FS9 won't load the visual model of the plane...

you don't need to waste $3.000 dollars yet, until you learn enough in Gmax wich is almost the same (both are the same Discreet.com)

As far as I know, Discreet since a lot of months hang up supports for Gmax, you can't download it from his webpage.

There ARE significant differences between the two SDKs, - and enough smiliarities that you can easily get tripped up!

To quote Fr. Bill,  he is finishing up his current projects - for both FS9 and FS-X - in gmax, and will turn to Max8 for future projects due to the ability to "bake"  textures.  However, Fr. Bill creates models for a payware company and therefore they get the return on the investment.

and from the FS-X Deluxe DVD (or FS9 disc).

You still need (well, should) go through http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax to complete the free registration process, or get the registration workaraound.

Yes I know about TurboSquid opportunities, but the support is down, so no any newest version, bugfix, etc.  :(

Thanks boys !

I think I asked wrong way.... anyway I found the solution by myself : I modeling the plane in 3DS, export it to .X format. If I want a FS9 plane I use MakeMDL.exe, and for FSX I use XtoMDL.exe :)

Felix is in a much better position to know, but I would agree with that from all that I've seen inferred...  ;)
