F-86 Saber

Postby Formula_1 » Sun Jan 22, 2006 12:24 am

Hi all

I am privileged enough to have an award winning F-86 Saber based about a mile away from my house.
Air Venture
I work about 200 yards from runway 24.
Yesterday at around 2:00pm est Wyatt Fuller flew his Saber giving us a demonstration flight of the planes capabilities.
I would try to explain what I saw, but you wouldn't believe me anyway, hehe.
Mr. Fuller (a retired airline capt) is a great pilot and does some extraordinary things with this wonderfully restored warbird. His flights are a sight to behold.

I am lucky enough to see him fly it often.

I am hoping to meet him and take some pictures of the plane to model for FS9/X. As far as I know there is no good F-86 for the sim (please correct me if I am wrong), so what better plane to try to model. If I can persuade Mr. Fuller allowing me access to hs plane for photos to go by, who knows? If I can acquire the info I would need, it would be a high quality piece with full VC. Completely accurate in every detail the sim will allow.

Wish me luck ;)

I'm drooling at the thought of an F-86.  Has always been one of my favorites since I was a kid.

I wish you the best of luck on your ventures and eagerly await your exploits.

hi guys...

the Dogpatch Crew did a great F86 in 3 liveries, "Mig Mad Marine" south african airforce and another one i cant recall at the moment... its for FS9 and it is awesome. i dont have a link tho, but it would be safe to say that the guys at the Sim-Outhouse would be able to tell you where to find it.

Thanks for the support :)
Thanks for the tip on where to get a nice F-86.
I will try to find the Dogpatch Crew's version. The server is down until the 25th at Sim-Outhouse. Maybe just a skin of Mr Fuller's will be all I need ;)

I still may do a model. It would be of great benefit to have a real plane to go by. So we'll see how it goes.

Nice mate ;)
I guess my first step is to learn how to spell the name of the plane, hehe.

Anyway. I have never tried gMax, but the tutorials are very helpful. I'm sure it will take me months to make the model. One, I am very slow and another is the level of detail I am putting in it. When I run into a problem, I hope to find help here. There is soooo much to learn, but I fell confident I can do it.

I am going to do a Panther and Cougar sometime after the Sabre. Hopefully I can find complete aircraft within a reasonable distance.

Thanks
It will have a full VC, no pilot figure.
No, I don't know of a F-86 with a VC.
The is a nice freeware non-vc in the files here. It looks ok and flys well, but a vc is a must for me as well. I only fly in vc if at all possible ;)
There is a F9F Panther with a basic vc in the 2002 files I think. It is a fair model. Some things about it's flight brings up questions, but it is a nice effort all the same.
I hope to make a very high quality model. I have been a r/c designer builder for years, until I got into pc sims. Everything I have ever built was of super nice quality. It was a hobby and I put my best in it.
Learning G Max is totally new to me. I got some excellent video tutorials on 3DS Max at 3DBuzz. These are a must have for learning what gMax can do. If nothing else, I recommend getting the 3DS Max "User Interface" vid. It is around 1hr, 15min  long and is a real jump start. They are all very helpful, but the UI one is a must have for any beginner.

Learning to scale and build all the pieces, then putting them all together, and have everything work correctly will be a challenge. And of course, EVERYTHING has to work, that's just my nature ;)
I'm sure there are guys that could throw together nice F-86 in a few weeks. It will take me that long to make the nose gear/bay area, haha
I wish I had of learned about gMax a couple years ago. I would be better prepared.

Hi everyone.

It is with much sadness I must announce this project was cancelled. It is only now that I have found the composure to update this thread.

On July 24, 2006 both plane and pilot were lost when an aborted takeoff went horribly wrong.
It was a sight I will never forget. I can only thank God Mr. Fuller was spared the terror of the fire.

I have had no desire to continue since.
Please forgive me if I don't reply in this thread anymore.
