few pointers.

i am a designer myelf, i dont consider myself a "professional designer", i just do it as a hobby.

if you and your mates are starting the team, and need pretty much a crew for deisgning, then what are your duties? other than speaking for the team or just being the "owner" and what not?

in my experience, designers look for teams who treat them as a family, not as another job. remember that this is a hobby and the sucess of a team resides on the treatment and equality of its members.

now, for another thing, if you're looking for Professional crew members then that's gonna cost you a bit more than the 30% every four months. most, if not all designers ask for at least 50% of EVERY model sold, the rate usually depends on how much work is done by each guy, the level of detail, the tools used and the time spent working on it, and its never set in stone. you also mentioned you "dont want anyone messing with your products" without the designers there would be no products to mess with.

im saying this through experience, i am a designer, as i said before, i do this as a hobby so i could care less if i do a lousy job or not. however i do have a constant contact with many recognized designers, exchanging ideas and often helping with advice or trouble shooting

+1

I was going to ask, how many designers were going to be apart of the team. It's seems to be true that the other members of the team would earn the 20-30% while true designers would ask for 40-50%. If it wasn't for the designers, where would your profit go, designers is where it's all at. I know I would be angry if in the long run I found out I was making less then the team leader, which in must cases that's what people try to do... :(

And there will be 4 designers. One for Models one for Virtual cockpits and one for Panel. If the Model Designer can do both VC and Model I will hire them to do both and A scenery designer. You guys would be treated as if you were my own son.

One thing I have found designers forget and leave out are little things that really make or break a great model. Detailed lights, touchdown, touchdown and takeoff air vortex, exhaust, dynamic wake turbulence for weather conditions and wing tip vortices along with contrails. All these items may appear simplistic to make and they can be if they are not designed with good details and thrown together with little thought in how the finished product looks. Looking 1/2 way decent, to me, is not enough. Also, many FX, if the aircraft even has them, also lack proper xml or c gauge control so they deploy correctly and under the right conditions.

Along with the model, textures and flight dynamics, those items are what 'sells' the aircraft as being realistic. Most people who use MSFS are not real pilots and enjoy aircraft for the visual eye candy they produce for screenshots as well as looking at it in action and thinking it looks very real. FX and details like that are what puts an offering into the catagory of a superior and desired product.

If you want to see what people find great, check the P2P networks and see what they are stealing.
