Kazunori Ito

I have just downloaded Kazunori Itos' P-63A.       Just like most of his products, a very nice flight model.     Also, just like most of his products, the .air file bears very little relation to the aircraft.   How can anyone produce an air file for a jet powered aircraft when the flight model has a whacking great four bladed prop stuck on front?     It has taken me the better part of half a day to re-do the .air file.    Maybe, someone in simviation might drop him a courteous line.     I tried - once!     Based on his reply, I've been expecting the ninjas on the doorstep any day now.

Second point: is there any simple way to get rid of the drop tank from the model?

Can you explain, a little more from this, I'm kinda confused? If I figure it out and it's not possible you can always, substitute other P-63 air files. Which means finding an other P-63 and overwriting Itos' P-63A air file. About the drop tank, it cannot be done if you don't have a source file.

Well, for example, you can easily reach 600kias in level flight.

As I've heard, Ito has never taken too kindly to [constructive] criticism of his work, which is a real shame. Subsequently, I don't fly any of his aircraft, because he hasn't found the room to improve significantly, despite what advice has been given to him.

+1

I really never attempt to play with his aircraft with the lack of time and consideration for realism found in his model, makes sense... "quantity, more then quality". I downloaded his aircraft specifically to find something very noticeable that caught my eye, without even test flying the aircraft.

Keep this standard reference in mind when you look in the aircraft config..

0=Piston, 1=Jet, 2=None, 3=Helo-Turbine, 4=Rocket, 5=Turboprop

Notice in the quote say's engine_type=1, lol your practically flying a jet engine in that P-63A.

:o
[GeneralEngineData]
engine_type= 1
Engine.0= -2.000, 0.000, 0.000
fuel_flow_scalar= 2.0

[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain= 0.002
inlet_area= 16.424
rated_N2_rpm= 29920.000
static_thrust= 11500.000
afterburner_available= 0
reverser_available= 0

Go in your P-63A aircraft config. and Replace with this,

[GeneralEngineData]
engine_type= 0
Engine.0= 0, 0, 0
fuel_flow_scalar= 1.00
min_throttle_limit=0.0
max_contrail_temperature=-30.0

[piston_engine]
power_scalar=1.00
cylinder_displacement= 186.670
compression_ratio= 6.0
number_of_cylinders= 12
number_of_magnetos=2
max_rated_rpm= 2750.000
max_rated_hp= 2400.000
fuel_metering_type= 0
cooling_type= 1
normalized_starter_torque= 0.020
turbocharged= 1
max_design_mp= 60.000
min_design_mp= 9.5000
critical_altitude= 30000.000
emergency_boost_type= 3            //
emergency_boost_mp_offset= 5.000   //
emergency_boost_gain_offset= 1.0  //
fuel_air_auto_mixture= 1
auto_ignition= 0
max_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar=1.000
idle_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar=1.000
max_rpm_friction_scalar=1.000
idle_rpm_friction_scalar=1.000

Feel free to add anything Felix, I know your looking at this.. :D

Thanks for the response.       I thought for a while that it might just be me getting cranky in my old age.
I have re-done the .air file with engine parameters modified from the P-39D and it now flies well and hits its' performance specs - more or less.        But the downloader (you and me) shouldn't have to do this.     If a designer is going to upload, he ought to have some respect for the accuracy of his work.
Kazunori San does make nice models - but the rest........!!!!!!!

as a caveat (and understanding that I haven't downloaded the model in question) - *make sure* that the model you downloaded IS a bona fide upload from the original builder or team.  THere have been cases of a model by XX modified or "improved"  by someone else, sometimes for the better, sometimes not.  THe net result is that the original builder gets inundated by e-mails complaining about such a texture, feature or whatever, that the original builder never put in!

It's enough to make a freeware designer go payware !! (and it HAS happened)

I think you may have been lucky to get a reply. I've heard of fellow developers who've offered advice, but not received any replys to their communications. :)

I understand where you are coming from, i downloaded his C-119, I looked at the MTOW and it was sommething like 5000 lbs  :o about 69,000 lbs short of the actual weight (that i found on the web) i made my own airfiles and CFG using FDWB and uploaded it to SimV as a patch.

BTW I wish I had the files I did before, I planned on making a bunch of aircraft files with FDWB i had around 20 but i deleted them as each took up about a meg of space and took many hours of research and trial and error of work, I had one for the P-63.

I agree Charlie, Kazunori's a prolific producer but he doesn't normally reply to emails, even polite ones.  I tried to get him into discussion once but alas....
