Wings 3d...

Hi, I'm a newbie to designing any kind of 3-d object for a game, so I decided that since I couldn't get fsds, I would try an old program I heard about before called "Wings 3d". I was wondering if it would be able to create files compatible with fsx, or if I would need to augment the files in some way. Thanks!

Quickly looking at the Wings 3D site:  "There is no support in Wings for doing animations. "   and the export formats indicated do not include Direct X.

For flightsim modelling, you're up against a hard rock.  You could create your basic model in Wings 3D, but you'd need to export it into some other program to create the animations, and to get it into the direct x format with which to use makemdl.exe.  THen, you'd be modelling for FS9.

SInce you're starting from scratch in modelling, why not start with gmax.  It's free, it's in the Flight Simulator discs (FS9, and FS-X Deluxe) and there are tons of tutorials available.

Thanks! I got the non-deluxe version, so I'll do a web search for gmax.

ALso, if you have FS9, it's on disc 1 "extras"  folder.

BTW.... you'll have to use the FS9 gmax gamepack, because the necessary tools to build content for FS-X with gmax come only in the FSX SDK SP-1 update, but you still need to have installed the original FS-X SDKs....  :)
