Creating a new plane

Postby Alias » Tue Oct 31, 2006 7:17 am

Hi everybody,
first of all I'd like to say that I don't know much about programming a plane for simulation, I only have some knowledge of how to touch the various .cgf files in it.
My object is this: I have a plane of mine built (the outside) but the cockpit now is absolutely nacked. Is it possible to build a cockpit only by making copy and paiste of other planes .cfg lines? I mean will the navigation system works in the end, or I will have only a good looking cockpit with no navigation display, radio tuner in it?
Sorry for this question, maybe it's only pie in the sky, but I would like to know more about as I'm entering now this wonderful world.
Thanks a lot.
Regards,

You did not mention what version of FS you are talking about. For the most part, you can not make a "VC" by just modifying a config file. Interior models, up untill FS10 are, "built in" to the main model and are defined by "switches" or display conditions contained in that main model. So unless you have the source code (gMax or FSDS file) you can not add an interior model.

I think he's referring to something he's in the process of building, Lou.

Alias: if you already have part of a VC built, then you're on your way.  For getting the actual stuff to WORK in the aircraft (ATC to acknowledge, engines to turn on, radios to work on several different freqs) you will need to have stuff added to the aircraft config.  Check out the other ones of the aircraft in FS to see what I mean.

As for gauges in the cockpit, you're gonna need to specify which FS you're talking about.  But I do believe that both FS9 and FSX use the same stuff.  In other words, XML gauges.  If you're wanting to just take stuff from other aircraft and pop it into your VC, that's a bit of work.  But if you're wanting unique gauges you build from scratch, that's opening up another can of worms all together!

See the attachment please.

The exterior and interior (VC) must be modeled in your 3D design program.

Displaying textures and gauges require other things be done.

The graphic attached shows the general relationships of what comes from and goes to where.

FS9 and earlier require the exterior and interior models to be modeled as one and sharing VC's with other aircraft is not possible.

To build a VC, try cloning/copying your exterior fuselage shell.

Hi everybody,
and thanks for your support. Actually I'm still using FS9 and, as stated on my previous post, the exterior is done. Now I miss completely the inside of the aircraft. Locke: unfortunately I have nothing on my hands now (no VC) but since I wish to treat this bird like an experiment I only would like to have a very raw cockpit (only temporarily) in order to make some tests like the old pioneers of the flight.

just throwing it out there but you can always download a panel and use that with the creators consent. i think...  :D
