They've done it again!

I was just wandering around the net and decided to look up my own aircraft, the Junglecat.

When lo and behold, I come across a page from good ol' FS Pirate, with MY AIRCRAFT ON IT!

I didn't upload it there, that's for sure.  And I noticed several aircraft on there that were most likely not uploaded to that site.  For instance:

ALROT, are these your 717 and Citation X?

And Greg E, isn't this your EA-Super600X-2?  I'm almost sure you didn't upload it there.

I do believe it is high time we quit letting these thieves take our hard work and post it wherever they choose.  I realize that they aren't making any money off of these creations, and we aren't exactly being robbed of the credit, but I do believe that we are being given NO CHOICE as to where our creations go.

So what can we do?

Now he's going to get all worked up again    ::)

I have already sent a polite request to FS Planet to remove my Nissan Skyline as it wasn't included in the list provided in the read me file that was shown at the end of the installation process. Here is the list:

4. This addon is -=ONLY=- to be posted on the following sites:
--- A. SimViation
--- B. Flight Sim
--- C. AvSim
--- D. FS2004.com
--- E. Flight Sim Ground Vehicles [My Home Site]

Any other sites are off limits to this addon.

I realized where my mistake was when I first uploaded my Nissan to AvSim. The site didn't let me upload because the read-me file wasn't shown "initially" before the installation process. That will all be fixed once I have completed my next project.

EDIT:

Seriously though. If a developer didn't put enough restrictions to control his/her creation and an unauthorized site posts the creation, then the fault goes to the developer because the developer didn't take enough measures to prevent it.

In a way, I am somewhat glad that my addon got posted because it clearly shows how excellent my addon is. If your creation is pirated, then it's a good addon. ;D

It's freeware.. The more sites that feature it; the more simmers to enjoy it..

That's how I look at it..

It's not the fact that I don't want people to enjoy my creation: on the contrary, I am glad there are multiple sites with my aircraft on it.

The problem arises when a person rips a file off another site and posts it on theirs without the permission to do so from the author.  If they would only ask, I wouldn't get as mad.  Just a little professional courtesy would be nice!

I see your point with them not asking for permession, as long as they don't sell these files for intrest then that's fine for me. :)

Hey I got  four stars. LOL;D I agree that they should'nt upload with out permission.
In the case of the S600 I gave permission in the documents to the user to do whatever they wished with the model. As long as due credit is given.
Its nice to know your looking out though Locke.
I wonder though what the policy is over at that site. Is it the operator that is uploading or members?
Only thing that bothers me is the bad picture of the U.S.A.F. textures. Suck! ;D

Its been a long road with that site, Greg.  They (I use the pejorative because I don't know for sure whom the culprit might be) have been uploading files onto that server for awhile.  That's the first of mine that has made it into the noxious mix, but I resent it and have requested that it be removed.

Even in my favorites folder, I have listed fsplanet as http://www.fspirate.com . . .

I've been adding this text lately:

"hotlinking or uploading or republishing this files without authorization is PROHIBITED."

my F-5 late beta says:

"HOTLINK OR CLONING THIS FILE IN OTHER WEB OR SERVER IS PROHIBITED.
I WONT PAY FOR DOWNLOAD MY OWN AIRCRAFT EVEN BEING A BETA"

seems to work by now

cause i've found every other panel or repaint of mine anywhere ok its nice to have it there but i remember once saw my f.5 in a web (a spanish one) where i had to be member to DOWNLOAD MY FCKNG OWN PLANE

and that PISSES me off very very much  :-/

It is funny how fs pirate forgot to completely load the VC on the S600 to get the textures working right. :P
You all are right though

Only thing I can figure is they posted it like that to show that it has that problem. Either that or they are just not as sophisicated as we are. Poor souls. ;D :P

Exactly. I'm sorry but I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Add:

If, the addon is found under any of these circumstances then appropriate legal action will follow.

might scare them away too? ;D
