Gmax v. FSDS

Postby flyboy 28 » Fri Jun 23, 2006 9:56 pm

Since I haven't really started modeling yet (still waiting on my registration number from Gmax), I was wondering if there is any advantage to purchasing FSDS. Based on ease of use, etc. Any ideas?

GMAX is more difficult to learn, but easier for complex modeling..

FSDS is easier to learn , but more difficult for complex modeling.

I've used both quite a bit and would LOVE to be able to move a project back and forth, depending on the task at hand.

If I could only use one, for FS aircraft design; it would be FSDS..

Pretty much said as I would, they can both really provide the same outcome, same detail and final end result. Just what makes them different is the level of difficulty they both have in use. 8)  I would still prefer gmax*

I prefer Gmax since I have the uncanny ability to handle and understand geometry. 8)

The thing that really keeps me from using GMAX is that it's not only awkward at times, it crashes now and then. FSDS hasn't crashed yet (for me)..

When I wake up in the middle of the night to try a solution that came to me in a dream (don't laugh.. if you really get into designing an aircraft it WILL find a place in your subconscious).. I need to jump around quickly and a lot.. changing views.. zooming in an out, many MANY times.. GMAX doesn't like that...

you'r enot alone on thisone Brett, it happens to me too

i tried Gmax (more than once) and i always went back to my dearlybeloved FSDS. i haven ow upgraded to FSDS 3 and im loving it ;D

it depends on your skill when it comes to crank out detailed models with FSDS...look at Tim Conrad, Rick Piper or  Dave Eckerett...they use FSDS and look at the quality of their work.

i recomend you try Gmax, maybe you're like Jessee and it becomes second nature to work and think Gmax mode...or you might be as the regular folk and find FSDS easier... it's a pesonal choice.

what ever it is you choose, just know that Inspector Poly and the rest of the forum designers will be there to shed a light when in despair hahaha

You must see which one is more easy for you, with any of them you can make great planes. I make a MiG-29 with FSDS 2.24

In the past Gmax had the advantage that with it you can make a better VC, but now with the fsds 3 is the same; and if i remember well dont will be a new version of gmax.

The great disadvantage of fsds is the cost, but it dont will disappoint you.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, should I go and buy FSDS for $50 or just try Gmax?

Try gmax first.

If you get absolutely frustrated, then splurge.

(I can't believe *I* just wrote that!)

Finally, a simple answer. :)

I'm still waiting on my registration code from Discreet so I can start up Gmax. Should it take this long?

You really should have been requesting the code from turbosquid.com/gmax  but even so, there is an accepted registration workaraound.  Go to the design utilities section here in simviation and look for it.
