Antonov 225 virtual cockpit

Postby gpktm » Sat Jun 17, 2006 6:59 pm

After spending many hours searching for virtual cockpit for An-225 I couldn't find any. So Decided to design the virtual cokcpit of Antonov 225 and I'm need some photos of it. Where can I find any of them?

Because I don't know how to convert it for the game (I only will make the 3D model), does anyone interesting to convert it? And about how many polys should I make it?

A great place to find all things aircraft:

Airliners.net

Just do a photo search for the Antonov and specify cockpit photos.  It will give you everything you could possibly need.

As for the modelling itself, I'd be happy to do a simple conversion for you, but there is a better way.  Just go get the Gmax SDK and the MakeMDL SDK from Microsoft's Site:

ACOF SDKs

I would also recommend both Middleman and MDLCommander (click on Freeware-->Go to Downloads-->MDLCommander).  They work in concert to give you a little better control over MakeMDL.

Just install the Gmax SDK to the Gmax main folder.  The rest should be taken care of for you.  Read up on the two extra little progs to make sure you get them installed properly.

The reason I am suggesting you do all of this yourself is that many little issues can come up in the export process that might require you to do a little model tweaking between exports, so you'll want to be able to do it yourself to make things quicker.

The number of polys in a model isn't REALLY a big issue, but I try to keep it around or under 60,000 if I'm including a VC, simply because things will lag if there are more than 75,000.  Just remember to make it "look" right.  Just enough to fool the eye, really.

Hey guys,

I thought that a VC could only be added by someone if they had the original source code for the model? So wouldn't you need the GMAX file for the An-225 before you could integrate a VC into it?

Ivan Hsu, the creator of MDLC, knows a way, with that you could transplant a VC from one plane into another. But I think it is a hell of a lot of work. Lot

I was kinda hoping he was referring to building a new 225! :D  Would be interesting to see another one built, since the last one was awhile back as I recall.

you can actually take the model apart and add one yourself, its been done with the stock aircraft in CFS2, Val, Kate, P-39 etc

Takes a hell of alot of hexing though!
