Project Nissan: Engine Development

Postby Katahu » Mon Apr 10, 2006 10:18 pm

Sorry for the really long wait period. My studies and my job are getting in the way. Anyways, I finished the front suspensions and began work on the engine parts. One of the big things that I have noticed was that the engine itself is slightly tilted to the car's left side in real life. That came as a suprise to me. Other than that, the engine has been quite easy to model. All of the parts are simple and mostly required primitive objects such as cylinders, boxes, and few toruses [for the turbo unit]. I'll update my sig to show further progress of the engine.

It was a challenge to model the interior wall of the engine compartment due to the design of the front suspension. But the challenge was overcome by the simple use of poly-modeling. This is my chance to demonstrate the use of the lofting technique on various parts of the engine [mainly the tubes and ventilation].

However, I am growing a little concerned about the poly count because I want this addon not only look excellent but also be frame-rate friendly at the same time.

I'll keep you posted.

Let's see some screenies!  I'd love to see a little on your lofting techniques.  I never use it myself, and I have been wondering just how it is that people go about that.

The lofting method that I'm gonna use is slightly differen than that. This project will involve tubes that turn in many directions.
