Serious problems with Gmax

Postby FsNovice » Sun Mar 19, 2006 8:13 am

I've just installed Gmax from the cd and registered it and all that stuff. When it fires up for the first time it asks what driver i want to use. Can anyone advise me on what to do here as every option i tried caused an error. I went on the gmax forums but i couldnt follow what they were saying. Thanks.

1. What kind of vid card are you using?

2. What are your system specs?

3. Try using the HEIDI drivers.  They always work for me . . .

Might try going to...customize.....preferences....Viewports...Choose Driver and set...."HEIDI----> Software Z Buffer. Also, update your drivers with what radeon has to offer, remember for your exact card.. ;) ;D

right click on your gmax startup icon on the desktop,

click on properties.

in the "target" box, you should see something like:

"C:\gmax\gmax.exe"

Change it to:

"C:\gmax\gmax.exe -H"

(note: Bold -H for emphasis).

This will cause your gmax to start in the "heidi" software driver configuration.

Do Not Try This At Home but when I saw that message I clicked the big X and it closed and Gmax works just fine.

wji has a good point.  gmax will generally open with a bit of a splash screen/box asking you to continue or go to the 'discreet' website.  If that's what you're coming up with, then all you have to do is to click either "continue" or close the box (wji's "X") and gmax should  open normally.

you said your driver is called radeon 9800 secondary....

well.. secondary stands for the secondary output of the card (the second port) and it only work if your using 2 monitors.... there is a driver for each port

if youre only seeing the secondary driver in the device list, i
