[W.I.P]Westland Lynx helicopter

Postby pepper_airborne » Thu Mar 23, 2006 5:57 am

I've been working on this chopper for a while already, rebuilding it from scratch from a earlier version that i didnt like a bit.

I created the fuselage by starting out with a single plane extruding onward from that. Since im not really fond/used to high poly box modeling generaly used in FS.

Hope you guys like it, i included serval renders because im testing out what works and doesnt work with the rendering options in G-max. Since sometimes it just renders black.

That will probably the base paint, since im Dutch myself :D.

I got inspired to model this when i saw a live training from the navy dropping down marines on abandoned buildings, fortunately for me was i standing only 5/8 metres from the Landing zone for this heli 8).

In dat geval... Welkom!

Lynxen zijn fantastisch mooie helikopters. Zie ze de laatste paar jkaar helaas niet zoveel meer vanwege de sluiting van vliegbasis Valkenburg. succes met het project!

Happens to the best of us from time to time ....!!

What really intrigued me was your early comment: "I created the fuselage by starting out with a single plane extruding onward from that"  ...  In a way, by doing that, it showcases how powerful a modelling tool the 3DSMax/gmax (and high end modelling programs) are.

Haha, well i consider myself far from the best.

Yes, its intriguing, i couldnt believe myself that this could actualy work. Until a year ago i learned that this technique is used by car modeling, i learned it myself and decided that i needed to model a car. Modeled a renault laguna and a Ford Sierra with this technique. Very suited for Highpoly modeling.

I cant really get around starting out with a cylinder and modeling onward from that by pushing verts around. Its just not my style. Thats the reason i decided to use this, no matter what people may think of it.

Its actualy quite easy to create a extra plane, since im G-max, you can select a edge, hold shift, and drag onwards, and there is your new plane! Now with target weld move it in the mesh and there is your polygon. Really easy and effective.

Again, the cockpit, all extruded from a row of edges.
