Uber useful guide to WWII aircraft camouflage

Nice, but not overly detailed (speaking of the Britain section) and slightly misleading... For example the comment that RAF fuselage/undersurface roundels were "bordered in varying amounts of yellow". They were actually in one of two proportions depending on the period. Not all day fighters wore a duck egg blue spinner or fuselage band either...

Generally quite accurate though. A little more of the page and a couple more diagrams  and it could have been superb...

I suppose I should alter the diagrams to read "most day fighters". I simply went with the regs on this one. But, like most regs, I'm sure mileage varied in the field.

If you can give me the general dates of the yellow border proportions, I'll refine the chart to reflect it. Although I stand by my statement, which is still accurate...just not precise :-)

This information is as accurate as I could make it, given the limits of my time and resources. But I welcome anyone with further insights or information I may be lacking to chime in.

I would ultimately like to build a very comprehensive visual reference guide to aircraft of all ages. This is just the beginning.

I'd be willing to help - I didn't realise this was your site Cherokee - I didn't mean to sound harsh . I'll see what I can do - unfortunately when my parents moved abroad, so did most of the useful books in the house...

If that's the harshest criticism I get, I think I'm doing OK :-)  Anyway, I don't mind criticism. No one makes it through art school without growing a pretty thick hide.

Any comments, tips or leads to good books or websites are welcome. I am currently working on expanding the Fritz the Fox site to include a lot more helpful aviation reference, so the more I learn, the better my site will be for it.
