I just installed Martyn Becker's "Engine Exhaust System" that was recently put into the SimV libraries onto my trusty old BAe 146-200 by Jon Murchison.

Hi John: Becker here!

The problem is that you haven't copied the .bmp texture files from the ZIP file into the right place - they need to go into the 'texture' folder inside the 'effects' folder. This will cure your problem.

I also fly the Murchison Avrojets a lot, and here are the updated location lines for the APU so that the plume comes out of the right place!

RJ85:
light.x=5, -31.50, 4.00, 4.00, fx_APU

RJ100:
light.16=5, -35.00, 4.00, 4.00, fx_APU

Happy flying!

Martyn

If you think that the heat haze plume is a little dark, you can replace the 'heavy' effects file with the 'medium' effects file to cut down the density (change the reference in the aircraft.cfg control lines). It's a fine balance between having the effect as real as possible, or having it so you can see it without straining your eyes too much!

Microlight,

Thanks for the post and the PM reply.

I'll go try to sort it out.

You really should go try to sell that technology to the Air Force......... visual stealth.  It's worth a FORTUNE!   ;)

best,

Microlight,

OK... Houston we have a problem.

I just went and checked the download....... there ARE no .bmp texture files in the zip file at all!  And the instructions don't say anything about needing them.

Here's the installation instructions:

INSTALLATION:
-------------
- extract the zip to a temporary folder
- copy the 'autosmoke' folder COMPLETE into your FS 'gauges' folder - don't copt the .xml files direct into the gauges folder
- copy the .fx files into the FS 'effects' folder. You shouldn't be asked to overwrite anything as the filenames do not exist in the MS default
- add control lines to the aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg as detailed in the MANUAL. There is a separate Word file which is easier to read than the text below

I downloaded the zip file from the library here a couple of days ago.  Unzipped the archve twice... no textures in it.

HELP!

best,

...................john

Microlight,

In fact I just also noticed that there is NO file there called fx_APU either.

Well, John, I'm stumped. I just checked my original ZIP and it's definitely got the textures in it. I'll email it to you so you'll definitely have what I have.

Regarding the installation - the readme is a quick-and-dirty introduction - the detailed installation instructions are in the PDF manual.

Microlight,

OK... I think I have some of this figured out.

OK... I'm still having some problems with the Version 3 EES effects.

I have them installed in Jon Murchison's BAe 146-200 with the panel by Matthias Liebrecht.

Now I cannot turn on my taxi lights.

John,
Because the effects work using the lighting switches, one of the side effects is that if you have taxi and logo light switches in the panel, they do exactly as you indicate. I think there might be a workaround - give me a little while to think it through and I'll get back to you. See your IM regarding the effects files!

Thanks,
Martyn

Thanks, John - you're too kind. I'll post the updates as an add-on to EES.
