Hi all...
I have a big problem....I lost 2 days on it, and I never solved...
I must to convert a .mdl model to a format importable in Maya... So, it's not important what...3ds, lwo, obj...
The only thing i found was a converter to dxf, but so it seems triangulated and without UV's...
Now...
HELP ME PLEASE...

Thanks all...

#1 - Converting compiled MDL files is viewed very unfavorably by the community, especially by the builders and originators of the original model.

#2 - Having said the above, you will note that since FS2002, the model format has changed significantly from before, to the point where they resist conversion anyway.

If you  are familiar and proficient with Maya, it's probably faster, for you, to build the model.

Yeah, man....I'm a plane modeller too... I never wanna do bad things with copyrighted material...What do u thought???
Just I have a model, and I need to see the textures UV for motors...I modelled the body, and I don't know how map motors...
Is it or not possible to export .mdl? In computer graphic, I think, all is possible... ;-)
Thanks

If you're modelling yourself, and you want to see how other folks do their stuff, I suggest you download one of the excellent source files and study it.

Mapping a motor is no different from mapping a fuselage, anyway.

NO.

Now, if you want a B-29 SOURCE file, there are two in the FFDS Military Source File Library.  One is in dxf format and the other in gmax format.

If you absolutely want the dxf format, probably the easiest way is to convert the FSDS source file with the CVA converter, and then import to 3dMax.

You may want, instead, to tweak the gmax model in gmax.

In either case, if you release your tweaks, please credit the original builder!!

BTW - that post card sure looks quite like the Enola Gay on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center of the National Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport.....

Probabely downloading a ready made model like Felix
mentioned is the best idea. Converting between
different software packages is always a pain.
Even if you can import your model into maya the only export format maya offers by default is .fbx wich is not supported by gmax.
So you
