Converting MDL to BGL?

Postby microlight » Mon Aug 01, 2005 5:07 am

Is this possible? I was thinking of trying to convert say the FS2000 Concorde model to a static BGL file, and place it as scenery on the tarmac at Heathrow, just like the one that's there in real life.

If it isn't going to fly (no pun intended) then I guess I'll just have to get to grips with GMAX and build a simple one....

just a thought... don't know if it will work, but

you can try dropping the mdl file into BGLComp and see what happens...

i mean, when you export a scenery file from gmax, it is first an MDL, then its converted into bgl format

who knows? maybe it works and i have just revolutionized the world of FS ;D

For the FS2000 Concorde, have you tried MDL2BGL? It will extract the drawing code to a Scasm SCX file that can be manipulated in many different ways if you understand SCASM.

I've done it! Thanks for the headsup about MDL2BGL, Firestriker - although it wouldn't handle the FS2000 .mdl file as the program was built for FS98. So I downloaded the FS98 Concorde from the downloads section, ran it through MDL2BGL, exporting it as an Airport for Windows .api macro file. Then used Airport to place it at the right spot at Heathrow and hey presto! Here's the last Concorde where it actually is at the moment, next to 27R, as seen over the shoulder of a landing 737...

If anybody else is interested, I'll upload it to the scenery downloads section.

In order to compile BGL from mdl you have to drop XML file on bglcomp.XML file contains the name of corresponding mdl file and coordinates it will be placed.

Don't be mixing apples and oranges. The compiling of the XML file to a BGL file only works with an FS2004 SCENERY MDL file. Flyable aircraft MDL files, regardless of what sim the aircraft was made for, are not scenery code.

Hi looks great. If you want the concord to fly try downlaoding the file from http://www.fsfrance.com/Projets/Mach2/Download.htm
