Tweaking the Gee Bee

Postby Staiduk » Fri Jun 10, 2005 1:26 pm

'Lo!

I've got a lovely Gee Bee; the problem is it flies like an absolute cow.
So I worked on the FD's for a while; now it flies beautifully - very sweet.

TOO sweet.

I want this to be a tough plane to fly. Good enough at speed; but twitchy at slow speeds (like on landing). This shouldn't be a plane for beginners; IMO. ;D

I tried moving the CG back; but that's a very hit-or-miss affair. I'm continuing to tweak; but if you wanted a twitchy airplane with nervous slow-speed characteristics; how would you make the adjustment?

I don't know, but I'm doing the Q.E.D.  (the post-GB GB - model R6 "Conquistador del Cielo")....

Get yours done and you're doing my FDs after that.

Basically, same engine, bigger plane, two seater.

Yup - that's the one I'm doing, Felix. ;D

I thought you were doing the smaller R1/R2 ??

I wish - haven't found one.

Anyway; after posting that I started tinkering again and hit upon the idea of shortening the wingspan and reducing the wing area by a third.

I also added a few lines relating to prop torque on startup.

WHAAOOW what a ride! ;D ;D ;D

This thing's an absolute nightmare - hard as hell to take off; twitchy like you wouldn't believe in the air; a real white-knuckler on landing.

Dayum, this thing's fun! :D

I'm fairly certain this is fairly realistic in regards to the 'feel' of the real plane - far from accurate of course; I'm just guessing here but it's hard, fast and fun. It'll bite HARD if you're not careful; which is what I like. :)

Wanna try the FD? :)
