Can anyone tell me if a converter/importer/exporter is available to take files from Max and use them in GMax?

Cheers

Export out of 3DMax to *.3ds. Gmax will import this file type.

If you're using Max, you can export as dxf or 3DS and import directly into gmax.

If you're using Max, however, you'd probably be better off exporting to a direct X file and using makemdl.exe

If you have a *.max file, but don't have MAX, then I thnk you're out of luck.

Sorry, I had meant moving from GMax to Max... which I don't think can be done.

... but, what's this about exporting straight from Max to makemdl? Are they compatible? Holding thumbs...

Thanks,
Bernard

Technically, it's a pain in the butt to do it.

What makemdl.exe does is take a direct x file passed on by Microsoft's gmax converter (the dle plugin) and converts that to the mdl file.

If you can export directly to a direct X file from MAX, you can run makemedl and open the x file saved from MAX.

You can export as an MD3 (Quake) model using one of the available plugins, and then, using a program like Deep Exploration (payware) change it to a 3DS or dxf file that MAX can use... etc.

OR use middleman.exe to capture and save the direct x file, and *I BELIEVE*  (although I'm not sure) that a direct x to max importer may exist.
