Periscope Animation

Anyone know anything about the periscope?  The Spirit of St Louis has it on both the 2D panel as well as the VC.  How can I create my own periscope.  It's listed in the MakeMDL animations, so it must be possible to use.

I set it up using linear animation, 0-100.  0 being closed and 100 being open, just as the SDK says.  But it doesn't work in the sim.  I can't even figure out if it should have seperate controls or what.

Any help, other than the SDK stuff, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Travis

That one even I figured out ... :)

Since it's a VC only animation/part , so while you can have it as a en exterior view, the only way to make it work is by clicking and dragging in the VC view.  You can then see the effects in either a spot view window, or changing to the outside view.

Okay.  I got that, now.  But here's the reall problem.

I can't move any of the parts in any of my VC's by clicking on them, and I think I just realized what the issue might be.  I'm pretty sure I've been using the MakeMDL package for FS2002, so the MakeMDL isn't registering the newer commands.

Anyone have a dunce's cap? ::)

Oi!  What a pain . . .

Now that I have the newest MakeMDL version downloaded and installed, I'm getting a whole new error message.

I didn't install directly from the installer to the home directory.  I loaded everything into a blank and empty folder on my desktop and then transferred it into the proper spots.  MakeMDL went into the plugins folder in Gmax, along with the XML thingie that came with it.  The rest of the stuff went into a seperate folder elsewhere, but they were only word documents.

So, now I try to export and get a message saying MakeMDL was unable to find MSXML4.dll and then I get dropped back into Gmax.  I was not having this problem at all before this . . .

Does anyone know what this *.dll is supposed to be, as well as where I might find it if I have somehow erased it or some such?

Middleman or perhaps MDLCommander

Both.  Please don't tell me they don't work with the new MakeMDL . . . :-[

Middleman will cause problems if you try to export scenery mdl.

MDLCommander works on my system. To date no bugs found.

Either way you go, you'll need to rename makemdl.parts to the new name that MakeMDL.exe is changed to if you decide to use Middleman and or MDLCommander in the export pipe.

Okay, how do I use this msxml.msi thing?  It doesn't run like a regular prog when I click it.  The icon is the generic one for windows that means it doesn't recognize it.

Not sure what the problem is. The application is a direct down load from Microsoft. Here is the actaul
web page
.

Did you save it to your PC? I ran the installer just this morning with no problem as I recently installed a new HD and OS.

Okay, I'm gonna say that I understand what you're talking about and just pretend I didn't want to do it in the first place. ::)

I download the thingie.

I double-click on the thingie.

The thingie asks what to do.

I tell the thingie to go F#@K itself.

The thingie doesn't work.

Gmax doesn't work.

I can't convert my aircraft.

This is such crap.

Travis,

You might have some luck with just the MSXL cab. You can find it here. I tried this approach once in the past when I had trouble with BGLComp. It was unsuccessful though. Might be different for you and 98 perhaps.
