scaling down parts

Postby hsvfan » Mon Oct 04, 2004 11:00 pm

Hi all,
I am working on a open source gmax file. I have found an image of the instrument panel ( but could not find any measurements) which I have used as a view port background and have created my panel which I will add gauges to for the virtual cockpit.

The image I used has make the panel  about a hundred times bigger than the aircraft, so I merged the files and used the uniformed scaling tool to reduce the size of the panel so it is in scale with the aircraft.

Question is, is this the best way to go about it, and can I still add the gauges to the panel after scaling it down.

Or is there a way to scale down the panel I have created at a later date if I can find the measurements from some where.

Cheers

In all, it's really your only way, and yes you can still add the gauges.

If you can find the measurements for the panel use the Gmax helper object Tape. Basically create two tapes, one on the X plain and one on the Y plain. Switch to the front view and align the tapes so that they form a right hand angle of 90 degrees. Set one tape to the length you need and the other to the height needed. Scale the panel to fit just inside the two tapes. If you need depth add a third tape on the Z plain and adjust its depth parameter as needed.

I hope this is clear to you. If not, let me know and I

Thanks FSedge
If you could send me file to look at that that would be great .Also do you have any easy instructions to follow on adding gauges to a virtual cockpit.

Thanks
