Help!!!

Postby Matrix » Sat Sep 18, 2004 10:24 pm

I'm getting close to finishing my first a/c for fs2004 but I hit a snag. The front of the zlin 242 has an awkward cowling to it and I can't seem to design in Gmax and have it look resonably realistic.

Any help would be great

the picture you tried to attach is linked directly to your computer...  try again, the image should be in a place accessible to all of us (server). you'll shurely get help once we see what the problem is.

Sorry about that. Here a link to a web site that has some pics.

its the nose and the engine cowling that are giving me the problems

Thanks again

The link gives a photo of the real airplane.  Please take a screen shot of your model in gmax and upload it here (click on the "upload images" button/link in the small blue menu above to guide you through the process)

How many pilots does it take to load a picture?
Sorry for my stupidity

I think you're on the "right" track.

For the front cowling, I would shape the cowling, forgetting about the opening for the moment.   You have what appears to be the overall basic shape already.

FOr the actual opening - which to me looks like an open "grin" - I would create the opening's shape as an ngon, shape it into the "grin" and then using shape merge, "trace" it onto the cowling front.

Once there, you can select the opening's polygons/faces and extrude them inwards ('intrude' them?).  I think your propeller spinner "tube" looks good enough.

Then again, proper gmax users probably have a better way.
