I don't know of any tutorials offhand.

You can get the job done in about 5 minutes with a Free Form Deformations modifier. Read the Gmax Help files on Free Form. There is enough info to show you how they work.

I used the FFD(cyl) set to 4X6X4 to knockout a rough bubble shape canopy. Then I added a Mesh Smooth modifier and set the Iterations to 2. If you want the gmax source file let me know.

I dont know of any tutorials either. But heres how i do it.

(i use 3ds max 6 and im guessing your using gmax so you might not have the modifier)

1. Make the fusalarge and conpy as one object.
2. Select all the polys of the conpy and detach it.
3. Shell the remaining to objects to 2 inner.
4. done :)
