Tilting searchlight

Postby Gnome » Sun Aug 29, 2004 9:45 am

Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else has the same problem...

I made a tilting searchlight for my latest airship design.  Now, I know how to to landing lights having followed Milton's tutorial to the letter and later, having experimented etc. so I just knew it was going to work, just had to link the lamp part to the bit I was using to animate the tilt, l_spoiler as it happens.  Compile and load into FS.  There is my light pointing straight down.  Eh?  Hit the SPOILER key and the lamp rotates down while the beam points aft.  Eh?

So, after a day of checking, double checking etc. the AXIS orientation of my PREVIOUSLY WORKING lamp I discovered the the object at the TOP of the link hirearchy sets the angle of the beam regardless of how you orientate the actuall LIGHT_LAND textured object!

It works OK now and I have also linked the l_spoiler part to a rudder object so I can tilt and swivel my lamp.   :D
