No.  You need to get it in dxf, or 3DS format.

Sorry if I came across as sarcastic, but it wasn't my intention.  I basically gave the short and direct answer.

#1 - I am not aware of any covnerter/script to import a *.max file into gmax.

#2 - There is definitely no script to convert to a FS98 MDL, especially since the FS98 mdl format is a lot more limited than the mesh that can be created with gmax/max ...
