Change .air file to reflect .cfg changes

I am a new comer to FS2K, and for my first project I want to convert the stock F4U-1A to a F4U-1D. Simple enough right ? They look the same (almost) so the graphics won't have to change

I made the changes to the aircraft .cfg file in wordpad and saved the changes, but when I run the Flt Sim. the airplane is little changed, if at all.

In the SDK it says that this is to be expected and that I need to run FSEDIT to have the .air file incorporate the changes in the .cfg file.

Where do I get FSEDIT ? ?? I have the standard FS2K not the Pro version so I don't have it on the disk now I don't think.

Need some help with this.

Alternatively, download AirEd (an *.air file editor) and input the changed directly.

You should be able to get it from the Simviuation design utilities page.

I can only repeat what Felix has told you. I never trusted FSEdit & would never use it myself. It must be the buggiest piece of FS software I ever tried.

Gringo6,
I've put a detailed reply onto your other post, which has been moved to 'addons wanted'.

I completely agree with Felix and Hagar about FSEdit!

:)

I find FSedit pretty good for editing flight dynamics-used it much during work on my project and it did it's job very good, dont know why you hate it...

p.s.Dont know about 2002 but FSedit comes on one of 2004 CDs

Hi Sterk. I can only speak from personal experience but I found it a very dodgy piece of kit. Most people seem to agree with me on that. Good to know at least somebody found a use for it. ;)

If memory serves me right FSEdit was installed by default with FS2000 Pro & FS2002 Pro. I'm not sure it's on the FS9 CDs but could be wrong. I always assumed it was posted separately with one of the FS9 SDKs. I don't think the FS9 version would work with FS2000 or FS2002 but could be wrong about that too.

PS. You could try it but, as I said, I can't guarantee it would work with previous versions of FS. http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp#fsedit
