I have converted to an MDL, and when I try to get it into Fs2002 and i load it says 'Aircraft Initialisation failure - unable to display the aircraft visual model'. I'm on Win98. I have made an mdl work before, so I don't know whats wrong.!?

check your plane's aircraft.cfg file

in the [fltsim.0] section, where it reads "sim=*filename"

that *filename should be the name of your .AIR file

check for typos, make sure all names match  ;)

there can also be trouble if the model filename isn't written correctly into the model.cfg file, or if you don't have a model.cfg file :P

Make sure you have the basics covered when dealing with the aircraft container. Check the name of the *.mdl against the name in the model.cfg. If that's not it look to the sound folder, panel folder etc. for all the required files.

Is the aircraft container one you have created? Or are you using an already existing one from 2k2?

I think the problem is that the model.cfg doesn't exist - at all! All of the work is mine, I have aliased Panel / sound and given it the beech baron textures / airfile.
I think my aircraft cfg is correct.

Dan. Check out my Dummy Aircraft Container here. http://www.simviation.com/fsdesign_gmax.htm

This is already configured ready to go. Pop your MDL file in the Model folder & point model.cfg at it. Use any AIR file/Aircraft.cfg combination you wish.

You can create your own CFG files easily enough. Right-click in the Model folder & select the New/Text Document option. Rename the new text file to Model.cfg.

I'ts sorted now. Thanks very much Doug. I didn't need all of your files, but it told me what I needed to know about the aircraft.cfg.
Thanks, Dan
