Canopy acting like X-Ray specs

In trying to (unsuccessfully) create a grille effect using textures I now find that the canopy acts like X-Ray specs when you look at the grill through the canopy!

I am very confused.  :-/

I really don't understand what you mean.  Could you provide a screenshot to let us see?

I'd love to but there doesn't seem to be a way to insert a picture with this message.

First upload the JPEG image (yes, it must be a JPEG) by clicking on the "upload images" under the header "Simviation" at the top of this page and following the instructions.  The name must not have any spaces in it, and must be very unique, as all images are saved according to name and will be overwritten if the name is the same.

Next insert the image by posting again and using the button directly above the  ;D and  >:( smileys.

You will get (img)URL(/img) with the () replaced with brackets.  Change "URL" to whatever the actual address of the image is.  If the image is named flipper.jpg then the URL would be http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/flipper.jpg

If it doesn't work the first time, try changing .jpg to .JPG

Hopefully you can see what I mean.  The canopy is allowing you to see what is beneath the right grille.

The problem doesn'r exist with the left grille.

The grilles don't work either.  I want the black parts transparent and I want to see it from underneath as well.

Then there are the other problems...  ;-)

Hi Gnome
Had this problem before not sure what causes it,BUT
If you have a reflective texture on any glass it causes this when you look through it to another part which has transparent textures or material

Things you can do if using fsds (not sure about gmax)
check the "part use transparent texture" box in the part properties for the grills, or remove the texture from the canopy glass and use spectacular instead
make sure all transparent parts are last in the parts list

Hope this helps

I am using a reflective texture in the canopy to get that lovely 'perspex' look.

Given a choice I'd rather keep the canopy and do away with the transparency on the grilles as they don't seem to be transparent at all for some reason.

I thought pure black was transparent anyway?

This is GMAX BTW.

Thanks for the reply.

It could be something to do with the parts order, I used to get this when creating a 'glass' canopy. What happened was the interior of the cockpit vanished until I got the order right. But I'm unsure how GMax works.

Hope it helps....

I don't know enough about GMAX to know what 'parts order' means TBH.  :-(

I think you're on to something though as the problem only happens with one side.  They're identical AFAICT.

In the end I have settled for semi-transparent grilles so they look more like meshes and the problem, although still there is not really noticeable.  I just would have preferred the 'Grille' parts to be more defined without actually having to make them as it would be tricky (for me) to get them to follow the contours of the wing.

I've just finished the flight dynamics.  Just a simple VC to do (another first , for me) and it will be ready to inflict upon others if any of you are interested.  :-)
