gmax polyflips

Postby Felix/FFDS » Fri Sep 19, 2003 1:18 pm

Okay, Felix, here's another one for you.  I have landing gear that (of course) need to have polygons on the inner surface.  Problem is, the polys are a little hard to contour using the "create polygons" thing.  So what I want to do is create a copy and then turn it inside-out, basically flipping the polys while leaving them in their original positions.  Can I do that?  Otherwise I have a long row to hoe . . .

clone object.

polygon sub-object

flip normals.

I know I've asked this exact question before, not even two months ago, but I've done it again and its ticking me off.

I hit something like Ctrl+Z or X or C, or maybe Alt+ any one of those.  Anyway, now when I select an object and try to move it, the Gizmo doesn't show up as three different colors, its just the yellow, like I'm selecting with the arrow tool.  What did I do?  Please help, I'm going to throw something through the computer screen if I can't get back to what I was doing.  Weeks of work down the crapper!!!! >:( :-[

Gmax is insanity incarnate!!

That's probably exactly what I did.  What does it do?

Well, if you knew max before the gizmo became the norm, you would recognize it...it's for us (max) oldtimers  8) ...so we dont feel like new kids on the block...or in other words, it's the old gizmo, before they decided at discreet that it would be real cool to have different colors on a three axes tripod...yeah right...  :D

I know that I'm being obnoxious  ;)  (I blame Felix!!) but if you had pressed F1 (the HELP key) and entered gizmo on the search tab, you would see underneath the entry gizmo an entry gizmo >transform, click that and on the bottom of the page there is a nice section about how to change the gizmo and how to use it...provided off course you dowloaded the helpfiles...(I actually started gmax to check this...always use max instead of gmax..)

It may be just me, but every time I come to this particular forum and post anything, I feel as though you fellas are laughing at me behind my back (figuratively speaking).  And then when I turn around to see what's so funny, your answers sound condescending.

I don't mean to be rude: this is a legit query.

What gives? ???

For the most part, those that lurk here tend to have a sense of humor that's a bit off the wall .  To be honest, you do come across as one of "us" .....

I am guilty many times of giving somewhat brief answers.  (witness my 3-line reply).  Sometimes it's a matter that I'm in the office (at home I tend to be a bit more 'verbose'.)

No offense is meant, because simply stated, we're all at different levels of the flightsim desing novitiate -  even "experts" .  What comes across as an "obvious" to someone  may be a flash of brilliance to another.

My remark to Felix is just because we know each other from other communities on the net... ;D

I'll see you at Da Roost with a couple of margs.

Thanks, ya'll.  I feel better . . .

I can't find the help files!  I remember I had them before, but I recently reinstalled FS and Gmax, and now I don't know where to find them.  If they are downloads (seems familiar) then I can't use them.  I run a standalone computer for my FS and Gmax, and a shoddy older one for the net.   This means that anything I download has to be able to be broken down to fit on 3.5" floppy discs (no CD recodable drive ::))

And yes, the 'x' key was what I hit.  I'm kind of a moron when it comes to those kinds of things.  For me, there's never a simple answer.

BTW, I have set the H-1b aside for the time being, and may scrap it and start over.  My new project is the Demoiselle from the movie "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines"  Seems a bit easier to make . . . ;D

The help files are in disc 1 of FS2004, or in the "gamepack" folder,. along with the tutorials, and the program itself.

If you installed gmax from another CD, check that CD, because the help files are there.

While gmax 1.0 came with FS2K2 Pro, the help files and tutorials are basically the same.
