when Im exporting in GMAX my program stops responding about 90% finished and makemdl open and halfway through. This is really a pain. (But I guess you gotta live with it) anyway I have all the export tools and in the right locations and other stuff Ive tried tutorials and other things to get it to work but no luck

Maybe your project is too complex. Have you tried exporting a simple test piece like a tube or cylinder?
