Exporting Problems in GMax

Postby Adam Preece » Thu Mar 13, 2003 10:57 am

I don't know if anyone can help me...

When I try to export from GMAx to .mdl, it ALWAYS says "MDLMaker path not found or couldnt export model. " Both the MDLMaker & FSExp plugins are in the GMax plugin folder but it just won't work. Can anyone help me?  ???

Conversely, I've the FSDS Type 22 frigate on the SimViation pages and was wondering, is it possible to convert files from FSDS to GMax and if so how?

Thanks

Adam. This page covers common Export errors & should point you in the right direction.

MDL or FSDS source files cannot be directly imported into Gmax. It is possible to convert FSDS1.6 source files to DXF format which can. You would obviously need FSDS1.6 + the CVA export plugin or an existing source file already converted to this format. Texture assignments & animations do not transfer.

I should tell you that although I never did figure out Gmax I have successfully used it to Import existing designs via this method & export them in MDL format. These worked in both FS2002 & CFS2.

Thanks Hagar. I tried to export one of the sample meshes that came with FS2002 and that exported OK so I think the plugins are in the right place. I think there must be a problem in the mesh. Thanks for the site address, it seems useful and I'll start working through.
