Please help with weird undercarriage animation

Postby ajver » Thu Feb 27, 2003 10:02 am

I am building an F-105 in FSDS2.  The main undercarriage rotates through 56 deg in X and 90 deg in Z during retraction.  It all works very well.

Now I am trying to fit the inboard gear doors which has a simple rotation througe 90 degrees.  However, when I link it to the main gear, it goes completely beserk !  Position changes and it takes on all kinds of different angles.  How can I do this right ?

Don't link the doors to the gear. Name them appropriately (c_gear, l_gear or r_gear) & animate each door separately.

Thank you Hagar.  I thought I had to do something like this, but I was not sure, since I have already called the main gear l_gear.

I will try calling it l_gear.3 and animate it separately.

You can use the same part name as many times as you wish. FSDS2 will automatically add the suffix although this can be changed to anything suitable.
For example c_gear.leftdoor

As an aside - when naming parts that have specific animation tags - you can name them, like Hagar says:

l_gear, l_gear.1, l_gear.rightdoor, etc.  BUT

l_gearrightdoor is NOT acceptable!!!

What some people do, as "housekeeping" is tag non-animated associated parts (taht would be animated as part of the main animation) as, say l_geardoorbrace, flaphinge_inner, l_aileronbalance...   In parts list, they tend to be grouped together...

Thank you Felix and Hagar.

I have named it as said before and everything is now working fine  --  sliding struts, etc.
