J-Bizz first time test

Postby JakesF14 » Wed Oct 21, 2009 1:16 am

I did the first export and test of the JBizz into FS9 :-)
didn't went quite so well, but still a feeling of achievement!

Things that didn't went well:
1) For a start, I couldnt get the jet to display in FS9's hangar. eventually replaced the CFG file with another model's cfg file, and export my model to the same MDL name as the  one in the cfg file. that worked ...sort of.
2) All the parts that Ive mirrored didnt show. maybe I must clone the part first, and then mirror the clone only?
3) My textures didn't show, but that could be just a cfg problem maybe...
4) the funny part... the aircraft reversed all the way. I made sure in Gmax that the model wasn't the wrong way around, but nope, I douldnt get it out of reverse gear  :-)

If someone have answers to my problems, that would be really cool!?

here is the J-Bizz in Gmax

With the texture: Did you save them as an extended bitmap in DXTBmp? Did you place the textures in the texture folder of your aircraft?

She's still looking good Jakes, considering its your first FS model. 8-)

Do you have any side profile shots?

Thanks, Yes I did. I even used a existing plane's files, and just replaced the MDL file and texture files, but keeping the filenames the same. oh well, im still learning  :-)

When you borrowed the air file, did you rename it & make the change in your cfg's sim= line?

ex: rename the air file to : Jakesjbizz.air, and in the aircraft.cfg enter: sim=Jakesjbizz

I had this problem as well, and that's how I solved it. ;)

Thanks Shane, but I dont have FSX, and only use FS9, thus no AIR file, if i am correct? I borrowed the LEAR60 cfg file. the structure is like this:

[fltsim.0]
title=Learjet60_C-FBCD
sim=Lear60
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=Lear60_check
kb_reference=FS9_Lear60_ref
atc_id=C-FBCD
ui_manufacturer=Bombardier
ui_type="Learjet 60"
ui_variation=LAviation CMP Inc
description=Bombardier Learjet 60 - Flightcrew of two. Optional seating arrangements for six to nine passengers.

At this moment, I've exported the model from GMAX and simply replaced the MDL file from the learjet. I worked the last time, although it then dont have its own uniqe name. I want to use the MDL name "JBizz100" where the number only indicate the stage i am with the model.

I do the modelling on my notebook, but dont have FS9 installed here, so I can only test it in the evenings

Yeah.. I meant FS9..  lol

I've never tried to NOT have one, but I know when I have a mis-match (sim=), it never works..  And I wouldn't expect it to.

Here's the low-down.  In many ways, the air file and aircraft.cfg file are redundant.. as in there is duplicate information. The key is that when there IS duplicate information, the aircraft.cfg file over-rides the air file.

Most of what you need to access to make your model unique, is in the aircraft.cfg file. The air file only needs to be similar (as in you wouldn't use a Baron air file, if you were modeling a Skyhawk). The things you need to match are: number of engines.. type of engines.. whether or not it's a tail-dragger.. and whether or not it's amphibious.

When you get your aircraft.cfg file done.. with accurate dimensions, geometry, control axes, weights, MOIs, contact points, fuel tanks, weight stations... etc.  then yo can use an air file editor (like AirEd) to change things in the air file, that aren't in the aircraft.cfg file. Like: gear drag, gauge responses, and a few other things that escape me now..

That's because you saved a flight with the old model.. and FSX can't find it.

hmm I learn the HARD way  :-) thank you for all the help!
What i've done now is this:
I took a model that i've never installed on my machine before, and adopt it's cfg file and .AIR file, and did the nessecary changes. Will se what happen tonight when I install it  :-)
