Ales Aircraft: Concept needing design for FSX

Postby The Ales Project » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:14 am

Hello,

I'm a huge aviation fan from a (relativly to my age) long time. Being in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, I'll be doing my Glider Scolarship this summer.
I'm aiming to be an aircraft designer in the future. Oh yeah!  ;D

Anyway, I'm working on a project for school in which I'll be building a R/C model from the aircraft (the Ales which stands for "bird" in latin). I did the sketches and 3D models. I also conceived a small wind tunnel to test the general aerodynamics of my design (I'll make a smaller clay model for those purposes). I thought that having a flyable model in a simulator would be really cool; I'd also like to see it "fly" as soon as possible.
I also want to do a flyable model for the RealFlight R/C flight simulator to help me practice before flying the real thing, so a 3D model with anymation could hopefully be used for both.

Here's my concept:
Image
That's a tandem two-places very light sportjet in the same style as Viper Aircraft's FunJet or ATG's Javelin.
It has two engines and [would] have a glass cockpit. It's not shown, but would have an optional central drop-tank placed under its fuselage.

Progress so far: I have a workable RcCad 3D model (converted into 3DS) however it has way too much polygons. I don't think it could be used in the simulator as it would need to be nearly totally redone; it can however help a lot as a reference. As you can see, I've done a color scheme. I never did any for FS, but I may be able to do one as I'm pretty experienced with graphic tools. I've calculated a lot of data, I would probably be able to have much of the needed data for anyone interested to help.

If you're an FS aircraft design studio, I could probably make some kind of exchange by making you a nice website as I'm also a webdesigner.

A website presenting the project should be up online soon at http://ales.foxleader.net . For now, it's just a 2-minutes splash screen.

Thanks a lot for your help!
Regards,
Thierry D.

Well, I just had a look at your other work and... that's hawt! :D

You need to see "My Other works"? are you going to Hire me or Paid something LOL ;D, don't you need my references too?  ;D

No man I made the 3d drawing to see the shape,  , Not interested I work for my own Ideas , and by the way Google:FSX ,FS9 Alejandro Rojas Lucena and that's my reference buddy!

Cheers

Ah, lol ok. I thought you would help me for the whole project. I didn't understand. No problem then, forget my PM XD

So then I still need someone experienced to help me into that! But if you guys just have an opinion on the plane itself, feel free to say it! I'd love to have comments, whatever they say (if it's pertinent^^).

Good night!

Very cool looking aircraft!!
If you are interested in being an aircraft designer, and if you want to see if this thing will actually fly, why not start working on the Flight Dynamics file first, and just drag around a temporary 3d model until you are happy with the performance.  Then adjust the design based on the changes you may need to make (I had to do that with my concept).  Using a generic or existing Air File does nothing towards tests your design, nor does a 3D model.
Once the thing kicks ass the way you want it to, that

I respect your opinion but not agree , you need to create the 3d model First to then create Its CFG Geometry, wing area , flight Dynamics ,contact points etc,

You need to fly this thing and test it ,Not because a you set a drag factor in any scale would represent how its going to behave inside the game , you have to set it up many time until you finally feel its the right one

This reality based on a geometry you are fitting into it,not backwards,

I would agree if was the case of mapping texture or making its sounds , but definaly to configure it ,you need it first the visual model..}

this is my opinion only

Seems we got a bit confused here but anyways.

Construction of my small-scale wind tunnel will start soon. With this, I'll be able to finalize my concept which will probably be modified a bit.

Then, I'll start working on an FSX (or maybe X-Plane... since I own both) model.

I understand that this is a lot of time and that I can't ask someone to do the work for me; it's my project. I'm able to create the 3D model (even if it would be of less quality than most of you), but creating the animations for flaps, ailerons, lights, etc isn't in my knowledge.

If anybody is willing to help, I'd appreciate it a lot.

Animations for flaps, etc is very simple.  Usually just a naming convention.  Lights are done using materials and entries in the aircraft config file.  The absolute hardest part is creating the actual parts for the model.
