I gotted stuck... (Swordfish II)

Postby Demo » Mon Apr 21, 2008 4:40 pm

Well... I took it into my own hands for a try at modeling... I tried to make the Swordfish II from the anime series Cowboy Bebop.  Got the exterior nice but I can't figure out the landing gears and bays and animating it... and there is absolutely no cockpit detail so I just painted a bubble yellow like seen in the series when it is in use.  Leading me to another problem... i can't texture it and because I have FSX SP1 it just shows up black despite the material coloring in GMAX.

Also, as there are no animations, i just moved things to make them appear as the would if animated.

So, I guess why I'm showing you this is two reasons I guess... Just to share with your about this project and the second is, if somebody would like to pick up where I'm leaving off and publish this thing for superb flying because I'm just an amature at best... please do... If you want to pick this project up, email me at rockwelllancer@hotmail.com or if you rather me upload to the projects page on here, leave a reply about it and I will.

Thanks for having a look and hopefully someone would like to take this  up... I admit I am a genuine n00b.  ;D

Just so you know, your images are way too big.  Read the guidelines outlined in the Freeware Screenshots forum.  The first mod that sees this is going to remove them.

Anywho, it would be good if you uploaded it to the Adopt-a-Project section, so that anyone can pick it up and do stuff with it.  I'll get on it if I can, but I'm in the middle of a very special project right now, and don't really have time.

I thought the size got bumped up to 1024 pixels wide? I'll rescale though.

It did. Nothing wrong with those images.

Thank you Hagar, I thought so.  Anyways, the scale is unimportant, I was maybe hoping for some tips or critique or anything... I'll put it on the adopt-a-design page tonight as well.

Whoops!  Ol' fashioned me didn't check for the change!

A question, though: why can't you detail the interior?  Is it because your new to modeling or that you can't find any views of the interior to work with?  Or is it something else?

And why can't you texture the bubble?  If you can texture any of the other parts, why not that?

i thought the same thing when i clicked in here...

but i liked this one also... i love fictional aircraft

btw, i think the reason that your craft there is appearing black in FSX is that FSX may need it's own shader to work with (i'm not sure about this... i'm not yet too familiar with FSX's new a/c implementation)

if it's true, i means you need to use only FSX shaders on the model... if you're using 3dMax or Gmax, shaders are called materials and you can select a different type by clicking on the button that says 'Standard' in the Material Editor, a list of all available shader types will pop up... assuming you have the FSX 3DMax plugins installed, you should see something there on the list (i may be talking out of my a** here... but this is true for other games... so it might be for FX just as well)

Cheers
