Please help out?

Postby mudhen » Mon Jan 28, 2008 5:19 pm

Hi, I am working on an aircraft similar to the F22, in Gmax. I have run an F22 in FS9 and see that the lower ailerons perform double duty as ailerons for roll and as elevators.  Is there a naming convention for the part in Gmax that would allow Makemdl to process them correctly?

without resorting to fancy XML coding, what you do is create a small part, with the same axis as your elevator part, and name that small part "l_aileron".  Then you make your left elevator (properly tagged) a CHILD of the l_aileron part.

I would suggest that you use the key-frame tags, and animate the movement you want of the parts independently.

L_Aileron_Key/R_Aileron_Key
and
Elevator_Key_01 (left elevator)
Elevator_Key_02 (right elevator)

your aileron_key parts do have geometry, but make sure it "fits"  inside the Elevator_Key_0n parts.

By linking the Elevator_Key parts to the _aileron_key parent, you'll have them move as elevons.

THAT was an easy problem.

There a lot of problems with "easy"  solutions, that one just needs a "nudge"  to actaully "see"  the issue from a different light.

Now, that is no different from a flaperon, or even a control yoke.

AFAIK the F22's individual control services arnt specifcly controlled by the pilot, he inputs into the stick and the planes computer works out what the best combination of control services is to complete the manouver  :)
