Rain in VC

Postby CAFedm » Wed Apr 18, 2007 4:50 pm

Anyone know how to go about adding rain effects in the virtual cockpit? I just realized that the effects are there in 2D mode, not in 3D. (This is on a homebuilt project.)

Thanks,

Brian

You have to dwell deeper into the FS9 SDKs for that kind of information. The included gmax source file will give you clues as to how to properly name and link glass objects that will utilize the rain effect. Please note that you will need to do some extensive reading on the documents.

However, I will assume that you already have the SDK with you because Microsoft seems to have removed the old FS9-based SDKs in favor of the newly-created, yet complicated, FSX-based SDK.

Thanks for the info. I use FSDS so unless files are ported back & forth through GMAX, which I am totally unfamiliar with, then I guess it will have to be left as is. I do appreciate the pointers however, and will check out the SDK. :)

Eaglesoft works with gmax (older models) and now 3DSMAx.

However, the FS9 SDK method (animted texture series) does NOT work in FS-X

OK, that just shot down my desire to try and get this VC rain thing going. Methinks I'll just pretend the aircraft is going fast enough that the rain wicks out of the way, and the pilot never actually sees it; sitting still on the ground will only be permitted during dry weather.

Thanks for the leads. Better to concentrate on something more important than putting effort into something that isn't feasibly workable (at least right now)...

It duz if the mdl is compiled with the f9sdk and the rain textures are copied from fs9 to fsx (wonder if they will include them with the patch :) )

You're right, of course - I was thinking "ahead"  with a certain program we're beta testing....  :)
