I originally had a custom set-up sound folder that I patched together from a lot of different places, edited up the actual sound files themselves, and so on, and it was working rather well. It always had a separate listing of sound files for EACH of the four engines in the sound config file on my favorite plane.
I recently got a new payware custom sound file for this aircraft. The folks that developed it use only TWO engines in the config. They say that is set up that way because when you go to four engines that Microsoft changes how it handles the sounds... and you lose a lot of sound quality. OK....fair enough. Even with the two eengines showing in the config file.... I HEAR four engines start up and shut down.
However..... I ALSO have engine startup smoke files installed for each of the FOUR engines as well as Martyn Becker's wonderful heat shimmer effects. These effects filers worked FINE before. Now with the new sound folder....... the wrong engine fans spins up and the puff of smoke comes from the wrong engine and the heat shimmer is coming from TWO engines at once and the wrong ones.
Any suggestions?
How much sound fidelity am I losing if I edit this up to FOUR engines using the same sound source files?
How do I get the TWO engine config to start the correct engines in sequence (#1, starts #1) and so on?
I am likely planning on completely re-editing this all up for my own use. But the last time it took a LOT of editing. Ah....... the crap we go thru for more reailism.

best,
