FSX landing lights dilemma

Postby CAFedm » Sat Dec 30, 2006 5:19 am

I'll admit to having asked about this on another forum but haven't got any resolution as yet, so please forgive me if this all looks familiar. There are some great minds all over, many here, don't ask me why I didn't check here first. I am looking to create a landing light, which according to the new FSX SDK, needs to be added by using the Attachtool feature. Using FSDS3, I cannot find any reference to Attachtool. Therefore, how to attach the landing light fx??? In desperation :(  I've also e-mailed Abacus and am still waiting on a response - it is unclear whether this Attachtool feature may be included as part of the forthcoming FSX upgrade for FSDS3. The light is supposed to function when lights are toggled on (of course); it is intended to shut off once the gear has retracted, and then switch back on again when the gear is extended. Using the older FSDS2, with it's preprocesses, this was easy to accomplish, but am now having a rough time trying to figure out how to get it all to work. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

Hi...

I think had a similar problem with my Cheyenne and Mojave (landinging lights on gear, that if not turned off when the gear retracted left the "effect" floating out in space ? )..

With some help found here at SimV.. I wrote an XML gauge that automatically shuts off landing and taxi lights when the gear are retracted, if they're on.

It's an invisible gauge that you just put on the panel (anywhere) with dimensions of 1X1.

You can download either of those planes here and just take the gauge and use it as you please.

I didn't document it, but if you have any questoins, just PM me..

A big thanks Brett, I messed around with your xml coding somewhat and came up with a background lamp that turns on & off depending on whether gear are down/up. If not for your help I would still be in the dark, so to speak.

Cheers,
