modifying from source files

Postby swordfish1227 » Mon Jan 01, 2007 2:48 pm

How hard would it be to modify the model of an aircraft if you had the source files?

I want to change a prop cri cri to a jet cri cri.

I know where to get the source files for gmax and I really want to see this done.

Brett - if it wasn't because I've seen videos of the plane, and downloaded the flightsim version (here at SimV),

I'm not sure whether to consider it a real aeroplane, or a pair of motorized pants ....  I don't think you really "get into"  the cockpit as much as you just step into it and wrap it around yourself.

I think I can do it, except for removing just the engine pods and propellors. can someone help me with that?

#1 - What modelling program are you using?

#2 - What format is the source file?

#3 - "Only removing the enging pods and propellers" is the simplest thing - select the part(s) and delete them.

I am using gmax
the source files are in gmax form.
if i try to select just the engines the whole aircraft is selected, is there a lock turned on or something?

It *could* be that the model's exterior parts have been "grouped".

select the part, then go to the menu bar and select "Group"   If the "ungroup"  command is active, select it.  then in the viewport, click on an empty space to "deselect"  all and try selecting the indiovidual parts again.

You're gonna have to regroup them before you export:

There should be a group that is labeled EXTERIOR.  It should be the one you ungrouped.  There might also be one labeled INTERIOR in there.  The exterior is the one you see in the exterior view in FS, the interior is the VC.  Make sure you regroup them both, and also edit them both.
