design publication

Postby Scudrunners » Sun Nov 05, 2006 1:48 pm

Is there a book or publication out that will explain step by step how to build a model, convert it to a flyable model and paint it? I have reviewed a lot of stuff on this site and there is a lot of good info here but it appears to me that it is really scattered about and you need a lot of knowledge already to be able to use it. I need to start from scratch.

Look at the first post above for Design Faqs.  Inside, the Idoits Guide is probably the most organized of topics.  Once you get into it, then as other things pop up, you can focus searches on the detailed questions.

As I said, I have looked at this site extensively and found that there is probable all the info I need here. Problem I find is that it is scattered around and you have to spend an aweful lot of time searching. I was wondering if there is a book or publication that has the info laid out in the order that it is used. I would prefer not to spend 5 mins doing a certain operation and then spending an hour or 2 searching for the info on what to do next. This forum is great for those how already have experience at design and painting. They would know just where to look for the specific info they need. Most of the time, a novice will not have the foggiest idea what he is even looking at much less where to find it. But if it was laid out in order, that would be a great help.

Thanks.

Other than the "Stupid Idiot's Guide", such a comilation does not exist.  At best, the FS2004 SDK site has an overall outline of the process.

You do make a good point.  Hugh SHoult's is one who doesn't mind his work being improved upon, so it might be a good idea to take it as a starting point and go from there.

Do you have a link for the 2004 SDK site?

I just finished printing out the complete GMAX tutorial. I was disappointed to find that the illustrations/images would not print.

Note that this page also has an overall "flowchart" of the model creation process.
